With new custom setup stations featuring a variety of Zero Point stationary workholding systems, users can create a common interface from machine to machine using the company’s offline setup station and the same Zero Point configuration on all machines.
Once the part is set, setup stations enable users to hold and locate the part and move the APS fixture from machine to machine with high repeatability and zero setup time due to the common interface across all machines. SMW Autoblok says this is especially important because of the customization that is often required for special applications, such as automation.

Available in diameters of 800 mm and 1200 mm (custom sizes per application requirements), the series 800 offers a maximum swing of 1100 mm and max weight of 1500 kg for the fixture plate and components. The series 1200 features a maximum swing of 1700 mm and weight of 2000 kg. Both models are available in voltages of 220, 240, 380 and 480.
Additional features and benefits of the APS and custom setup tables include repeatability within 0.005 mm; a handset jogging function with three speed selections; and a safety pull cord. The machine is said to eliminate on-machine setup and increase machine productivity by loading and qualifying components offline.
Many job shops start in a garage with a used mill and a manual lathe. The owners of this Utah job shop took a different tack. Along the way to a very successful business, they've debunked a bunch of myths commonly held about job shops.
Affordable indexers and fourth-axis rotary tables greatly enhance the capability of vertical machining centers. It’s almost as good as having a horizontal machining center.
